Tobe – Japanese pottery exhibition

Handmade Interiors have announced a Tobe exhibition as part of the London Design Festival.

The exhibition will be held at their Cheshire Street store and will showcase a range of fantastic ‘one-off’ pieces designed by Japanese Ceramic artists.

Tobe Pottery is recognised as an artistic marriage between the beauty and practicality of Japanese design. What are essentially traditional everyday items to residents of Southern Japan, to a UK audience, Tobe holds all the allure of exotic Eastern design, while being practical and affordable enough to fit into any contemporary home.

The show opens on 16th September with a private view from 6.00 – 9.00pm. The exhibition runs until 26th September (opening hours 11.00 – 6.00pm).

Northern Design Awards 2010

On Friday, October 8, Concept For Living will bring together top designers, retailers and property developers in the Chester Grosvenor and Spa for a glittering celebration of the best in Northern design, architecture and craftsmanship.

For all the information on the awards, the expert judges, booking a table or to check out who has entered, please go to our new website.

A few entries are now in and it looks like competition could be fierce. If you would like to enter a product or project, it couldn’t be easier.

Just go to our new website and fill in your basic details, select the category(s) you wish to enter, add a description of no more than 500 words about your entry, and then upload as many good quality images to back up your entry as you feel necessary.

Entry is free and you may enter as many categories as you’d like.

The closing date for entries is August 27, 2010. We will inform you if you have been successfully shortlisted by the September 6.

Rebecca and Greg Davies’ period terraced home in Altrincham is an Aladdin’s cave of colourful design and antique gems. Rebecca Drake went along to discover more…

Rebecca Davies and her husband Greg moved into their Cheshire home in 2001. From the outset, they knew that the dilapidated terraced property would be a project that would require focus and attention to detail, providing the perfect outlet for Rebecca’s creative mind to run wild.

Rebecca explains: “When we moved in the house was an absolute wreck and in need of complete renovation; kitchen, bathroom, central heating, double glazing. It was a bit of a project to say the least!”

Seduced by the generous proportions and high ceilings Rebecca’s vision was to carry out a sympathetic renovation and restoration of the period features and bring them back to life with a quirky take on modern design themes. Focusing on bright, bold injections of jewel-like colour and texture in the kitchen and living spaces and softer, more peaceful themes in the bathroom and bedrooms.
