Dudley Edwards: a works in progress

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Dudley Edwards, founder of Amazed ltd along with wife Madeleine, is holding his first solo art exhibition between February 6 and March 6, 2010.

dudley-edwards

Featured in Spaces magazine back in 2008 for the fantastic range of bespoke rugs  and wall hangings from Amazed ltd,one half of the pair has been busying himself with another passion, namely, painting.

While this may be Dudley’s first solo exhibition, he has an abundance of experience across many art-forms. Notably to date his work has been displayed in major galleries around the world, for example, The Musee d’ Histoire Contemporaine, Paris; The V&A, London; The Tate Gallery, Liverpool; The Schirne Kunsthalle, Frankfurt; The Kunsthalle Vienna and The Whitney Museum of Art in New York.

The style of Dudley’s art in the use of colour harks back to his emergence on the art scene in the ’60s, when he was one of the pioneers and innovators of the ‘pop’ movement. His name may not be synonymous with pop art like some others, but with work including Paul McCartney’s psychedelic piano and The Kinks pop art painted buick seen on the cover of the single, Sunday Afternoon, Dudley’s work is instantly recognisable worldwide.

So it is with much anticipation that Dudley is being welcomed back to his hometown of Halifax to display at the Crossley Gallery. So if you are in the area and fancy a glimpse back at the swinging ’60s with a modern edge, this is not to be missed.

For more information go to www.deanclough.com or email info@amazedltd.com.

It is an ambitious blend of mystical mathematics and esoteric symbolism that nevertheless draws on painters as diverse as Bonnard, Vermeer, Degas, Hopper and Hammershoi to portray ‘the human condition’.

The snow has a silver lining for homeowners

Friday, January 15th, 2010

As snow blankets the country, Sliderobes showrooms are seeing a huge increase in interest in their space-saving fitted bedroom furniture.

sliderobes01

Niamh Boyle, marketing manager, said, “We have seen a quite remarkable, and most unexpected, phenomenon recently.

“Several customers have told us that when the snow came down heavily, they ended up being confined in their home for days. For the first time, often in ages, they looked around their house properly. They didn’t like what they saw and many of them took the opportunity to try to sort out clutter.

“They said they really began to see things that had irritated them mildly. Things like bags stuffed under the chest of drawers, boxes piled on top of their freestanding wardrobe and clutter that had never found a permanent home. Confined to the house, they had the time to think about permanently solving those storage problems,” she added.

As a result, for Sliderobes, who tailor-make fitted bedroom furniture, this has been a bumper time. It seems that as soon as the weather lifts, customers want to tackle the problem once and for all.

Niamh added, “It’s often said that every cloud has a silver lining. Many of us spend our time rushing to and fro, falling into bed exhausted at the end of each day, never really getting to grips with challenges.

“Whilst we wouldn’t wish this dreadful weather on anyone, it really has been a bonus for us. At virtually every one of our showrooms, we’ve had customers through the door – or in many cases on the phone – who have said that spending more time at home has meant that they have seen their clutter as it really is,” she explained.

Sliderobes, which creates bespoke storage, designed individually and crafted in local workshops, has showrooms across the UK and Ireland.
